Art Supplies in Canada

The Painting Experience sells brushes and paper that can be mailed to US addresses.
If you live in Canada, here are some tips for finding supplies.
Brushes and paper can also be bought directly at workshops.

Paints: The paints we use in the workshop are a Liquid Tempera Watercolor Paint.  We have used a high quality paint called Prang, Professional Brand now discontinued, so now we recommend the following:

In the US:
We are recommending Utrecht. It is available only in the US, so if you are ordering in Canada it will cost probably twice the price for shipping and customs.  However, it isn’t very expensive.

In Canada:
We recommend ChromaTemp in Western Canada.   You can find ChromaTemp in Opus in Vancouver and Victoria, and in Artists Emporium on James Street in Winnipeg  and Cactus Arts in Calgary in art stores in most of Canada.
In Quebec you can find Schola which is made in Quebec and can be purchased at Omer DeSerres in Montreal.

On Vancouver Island, you can get  Schola at  Impressions Custom Framing in Campbell River. In Courtenay they carry FunStuff at PJ Crafts which we do not recommend.  In Nanaimo at Michael’s Craft Store they carry Rich Art Tempera Paints, which are OK. Chromatemp is the preferred brand for Western Canada.

Paper:
Springhill Vellum Bristol 80# 26x40 cut to 26x20.  It is bookmakers paper.  We sell this for $.75 per sheet usually in bundles of 20 sheets for $15 plus shipping.

You can contact Annie Rousseau to obtain some of this paper.  Or you can ask at your art store for the closest substitute, like Plainfield, Mayfair Cover, or Strathmore.

***The important thing is you want a paper about the 20x26, with a Vellum finish, and at least 65# weight but preferably 80#, so it won’t buckle when it gets wet, and doesn't cost too much.

Brushes:  Brushes can be ordered from our website or you can buy them when attending one of our workshops. Inexpensive brushes called Royal Grip may be available at your local art/craft store or contact Annie to obtain brushes.

Pallets, Pallet Knives:  These can be found at any art supply store.
